NPFL boss warns against unauthorized use of league branding

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has again condemned the deliberate flouting of its naming rights by unscrupulous corporate organizations and their collaborators.
The Chairman of the NPFL, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, made the observation following the announcement of the Eunicell Boot Award for the highest goal scorer in the just-concluded 2024/25 season.
The NPFL helmsman noted that while the league appreciates value-adding initiatives such as the proposed N3.6 million prize awarded to Anas Yusuf, there are laid-down procedures for partnering with the league on such projects.
“It is not right for any person or organization to use the name of the NPFL and announce an award without recourse to the asset owners,” he said.
“We are going to use every legal channel to protect our asset from this ambush. We will write to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission so that these illegal activities will stop once and for all,” the NPFL boss added.
He revealed that the NPFL has identified the organizers of the unauthorized award and warned them to desist from such actions immediately.
“There must come a time when we put an end to impunity, no matter how long the illegality has gone on. That time is now, and we must get things right,” Elegbeleye concluded.
