NPFL: Draw galore as Nasarawa Utd reclaim top spot

By Tosin Omojola –
Matchday 14 of the NPFL delivered a flurry of draws, but it was Nasarawa United who stole the spotlight by reclaiming the top of the league table with a convincing 3-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
The result pushed the Solid Miners back to the summit, while their closest rivals, Ikorodu City, are set to be in action on Monday.
Defending champions Remo Stars and Rangers International also recorded wins, with Remo Stars defeating Barau FC 2-0 in Abeokuta, and Rangers edging a hard-fighting Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Enugu.
However, Sunday’s fixtures were largely dominated by draws, as visiting teams refused to yield to their hosts. In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists fought hard to hold Bayelsa United to a 1-1 draw, while Warri Wolves were held to the same score by Kun Khalifat of Owerri.
In Ilorin, Shooting Stars and Kwara United played out a goalless draw, with the same scoreline recorded in the tie between hosts Abia Warriors and visiting Bendel Insurance in Umuahia.
Two more matches are scheduled for Monday, with Katsina United hosting Enyimba in Ilorin and Kano Pillars facing Ikorodu City in Katsina.
Sunday’s results highlighted the competitive nature of the league, with draws aplenty, but Nasarawa United’s emphatic victory ensured they reclaimed the top spot.
