NPFL may replace StarTimes as broadcast partner — Elegbeleye

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) may secure a new broadcast partner ahead of the 2025/26 season, as the league body considers replacing current rights holder, StarTimes.

Chairman of the NPFL, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, hinted that two media organizations have been shortlisted as potential replacements, pending the outcome of ongoing discussions.

Elegbeleye stated in a recent interview on a WhatsApp platform that the league is open to better offers and will not hesitate to seal a new deal if it meets expectations.

He revealed that StarTimes has been in partnership with the NPFL for the past three seasons under a ₦6 billion broadcast deal but added that the league is ready to welcome new partners offering improved terms and higher standards.

“This new season, we’re talking about broadcasting. We had StarTimes, but we may not likely go with them this time around,” Elegbeleye said. “We are already considering other options, depending on the offers.”

He specifically mentioned AfroSports as one of the organizations being considered, noting that the company, alongside GIMG, made presentations at the league’s Annual General Meeting.

The sports administrator and politician emphasized the importance of aligning with partners that understand and can deliver the league’s broadcasting vision.

Barring any changes, the 2025/26 NPFL season is expected to kick off on August 22, with the opening fixtures already released.
