NRC, LAMATA strengthen partnership on railway development

The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s rail sector through enhanced collaboration and strategic partnerships.

During a high-level meeting held earlier today, NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, received a delegation from LAMATA, led by its Managing Director, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo.

The discussions centered on improving operational synergy, crisis management, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of railway services in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope 8-Point Agenda.

Dr. Opeifa emphasized the importance of an integrated railway system in reducing transportation costs, boosting trade, and driving economic growth.

He reiterated NRC’s commitment to working closely with LAMATA to create a more efficient and interconnected transport network.

A key focus of the engagement was the need for increased private sector investment in the railway industry. Both parties stressed the importance of financial institutions and key stakeholders in ensuring sustainable funding and modernization of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure.

Dr. Opeifa assured LAMATA of NRC’s openness to future engagements and innovative partnerships that will enhance passenger and cargo rail services. He noted that such collaborations are crucial in building a world-class railway system that supports Nigeria’s economic and urban development goals.
