NRC, LAMATA to launch integrated e-ticketing system for Lagos rail commuters

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is collaborating with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to introduce an electronic fare collection system aimed at improving revenue protection and commuter convenience.
The Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, disclosed this during a visit to LAMATA’s rail infrastructure, where he was received by the agency’s Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo.
During the tour, Dr. Opeifa and his team inspected key facilities including the Marina Train Station, the Blue Line Independent Power Plant, the Red Line’s Oyingbo Station, and the Security Control Center. The visit was guided by Engr. Akinajo alongside the Technical Adviser for Public Transport Rail, Engr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, and other senior officials.

Dr. Opeifa commended the collaboration between NRC and LAMATA and stressed the importance of greater synergy to deliver efficient and seamless rail services. He revealed that NRC is developing a ticketing system integrating the federal payment gateway with LAMATA’s electronic payment platform, ensuring easier access for commuters.
Engr. Akinajo highlighted LAMATA’s focus on connectivity and seamless integration, particularly at strategic interchanges like Agbado and Agege, which will provide direct links to other key parts of Lagos.
She credited the agency’s achievements to the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which prioritizes transportation and mobility.

The LAMATA Managing Director further noted that the Blue Line has consistently maintained over 99% uptime since its launch, demonstrating the efficiency and reliability of Lagos’ modern rail system.
Both NRC and LAMATA reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to enhance the commuter experience and ensure sustainable urban rail transport in Lagos.
