NSC appoints Aluko as President of Nigeria Netball Federation (NNF)

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the appointment of seasoned sports administrator Dr Oluwatoyin Aluko as President of the Nigeria Netball Federation (NNF).

Making the disclosure on Wednesday, the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said it was time for Nigeria to establish a sustainable structure for the growth of netball in the country.

He noted that netball is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports and that Nigeria has many top professional athletes in the diaspora competing at the highest level.

“As part of Mr President’s mandate to build a sustainable sports economy, we are creating a well-organised system where Nigerians, at home or abroad, can be proud to represent the country in their specialised sports.

“Currently, based on our research, over thirty Nigerians are actively playing netball in some of the top leagues in Europe and South Africa.

“This means we can have a very formidable netball team that can strengthen our podium potential if we have a well-organised federation for the sport. Dr Aluko is a former netball player who knows the sport inside out. This is a big step we have taken, and in the days ahead, we will announce the full board of members,” he added.

The newly appointed President, Dr Oluwatoyin Aluko, is a former netball player and currently serves as President of the Association of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria (AFFAN).

She is an accomplished national athlete, coach, and sports administrator with over 45 years of experience.
