The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has praised Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, for their impressive 2-1 victory over Ghana, which secured their defense of the WAFU B U-20 Championship title.
The match took place under the floodlights in Lome on Wednesday night, with Kparobo Arierhi scoring twice in the first half to clinch the regional derby.
Dikko celebrated the team’s achievement, describing the victory as a “welcome gift” for Nigerian sports and a promising milestone in the squad’s journey. He emphasized the importance of this win in setting a positive tone as the Flying Eagles gear up for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON), with hopes of securing a spot in the U-20 World Cup.
He also stressed the need for early preparation, highlighting that it is essential for the team to be well-prepared for the U-20 AfCON. Top teams from this tournament will earn the chance to represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile in September 2025.
