The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade, has called for unity among the various Supporters Clubs in Nigeria to strengthen their ongoing support for the country’s national sports teams.
Olopade made this appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club, led by its President, Abayomi Ogunjimi.
Commending Ogunjimi’s dedication and passion for supporting Nigeria’s national teams, Olopade highlighted the impressive contributions of the Authentic Nigeria Supporters Club since its inception.
“I am honoured by this show of love and support from the Authentic Supporters Club, especially from its President, Abayomi Ogunjimi. The National Sports Commission, under the chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko and myself as the DG, will always support the activities of the Supporters Club,” Olopade said.
He emphasized the importance of uniting all factions of the Nigeria Supporters Club under one umbrella for greater impact.
“This is why I am urging all the various Supporters Groups to come together in one voice, so that you can all be on the same page, singing the same song at the stadium. I also want to see the Supporters Club extend its support not only to football but to all sports, as other disciplines besides football also deserve such backing,” he added.
In his remarks, Ogunjimi stressed the need for stakeholder support in the NSC’s mission to transform Nigerian sports. He commended the leadership of the NSC for its vision and commitment to revitalizing the sector.
“Nigerian sports will never be the same again with the appointment of Mallam Shehu Dikko and Honourable Bukola Olopade as Chairman and Director General of the National Sports Commission. I have no doubt that they are the best hands to revamp Nigerian sports,” Ogunjimi stated.
During the visit, Ogunjimi presented the DG with a jersey and a framed photograph of the club as tokens of appreciation.
Honourable Olopade concluded that the call for unity and collaboration marks the beginning of a new era of synergy-focused actions, aimed at advancing the nation’s sports sector across all levels.
