NSC DG Olopade pledges support for women in sports
The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade, has pledged support for women in sports, emphasizing that the Association of Nigeria Women in Sports (NAWIS) holds a pivotal role in the nation’s sports industry.
Hon. Olopade made these remarks during a courtesy visit to his office by the NAWIS executive team, led by its President, Professor Mariam Suleiman, on Friday.
“I have always championed the cause of NAWIS for over 21 years because I believe the Association plays a significant role in mentoring our athletes and fostering sports development,” Olopade said.
“I firmly believe NAWIS deserves annual National Awards, and those involved in girl-child advocacy must recognize the critical role the Association plays in our society,” he added.
The DG further highlighted NAWIS’s importance to the overall growth of sports in Nigeria, pledging to integrate the Association into the new NSC framework.
“This is a body essential to sports growth. As DG, along with the Chairman, I will work tirelessly to ensure NAWIS becomes part of the new NSC amendment,” he stated.
In her remarks, Professor Suleiman commended Hon. Olopade’s appointment as a transformative step for Nigerian sports. She pledged NAWIS’s full support for the Commission’s vision.
“Nigerian sports is in the right hands with your leadership. We at NAWIS are fully committed to collaborating with the NSC to achieve its goals and promote sustainable sports development,” Suleiman affirmed.
