NSC DG reaffirms commitment to staff training for sports development

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to training and retraining staff to enhance the scientific productivity of Nigerian sports.

Olopade made this statement during a surprise visit to a meeting between newly appointed Federation Secretaries and the Director of the Federation of Elite Athletes Department (FEAD), Olumide Bamiduro.

“One of the gaps we identified upon our appointment, alongside Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, was the lack of adequate staff training and retraining. We have therefore tasked department heads with identifying talented individuals who will undergo both local and international capacity-building programs,” Olopade said.

He emphasized the evolving nature of the sports ecosystem, underscoring the necessity of continuous training to boost productivity and efficiency within the Commission.

The DG also urged Federation Secretaries to align with the Commission’s vision, particularly the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE) campaign.

“As Federation Secretaries, you are key to shaping history. Our goal is to empower you to manage your federations as independently as possible,” he stated.

Addressing concerns about the newly introduced Chief Operating Officers (COOs), Olopade clarified that their role is to support, not override, the secretaries.

He expressed confidence that a collaborative relationship between both parties would strengthen the Commission’s strategic goals.

In response, FEAD Director Olumide Bamiduro commended the DG’s visit, describing it as a reaffirmation of the Commission’s ongoing reforms and its dedication to fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s sports development mandate.
