NSC hails D’Tigers after win over Madagascar
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, on behalf of the Federal Government, has congratulated the Nigerian men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, on their 77–59 victory over Madagascar in their opening fixture at the 2025 Afrobasket in Luanda, Angola.
“While watching the match, I remembered your promise to deliver the trophy when I visited your camp before you left. In this match, I saw the commitment that showed you have truly matched words with action. With the dedication and zeal you displayed, it is clear that you are committed to bringing back the trophy,” Dikko said.
“Your quality has never been in doubt. In this form, it will take something extra to stop you. You have proved to be among the best on the continent in recent years, and once again, you have shown your readiness to make the nation proud.”
He urged the team to prepare for tougher challenges as the competition progresses.
“Keep your eyes on the goal. With your performance today, all eyes will be on you. Opponents will come out with greater force, but with your characteristic never-say-die Nigerian spirit, I am confident you will weather all storms and replicate the result your female compatriots, D’Tigress, recorded at the Women’s Afrobasket. We are still celebrating their victory, and now you have given us another reason to be excited,” he added.
The NSC Chairman reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s full backing for the team.
“Mr. President’s Renewed Hope and Shared Prosperity agenda is focus-driven and result-oriented. In recent weeks, we have seen positive outcomes in sports, and Mr. President is expecting to get his hands on another trophy from you. I assure you that the entire nation is solidly behind you,” he concluded.
Similarly, the NSC Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, applauded the team’s performance against Madagascar.
