NSC inspects Lagos facilities for 2026 National Youth Games hosting rights

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has concluded a two-day inspection of sporting facilities in Lagos State as part of the process for awarding hosting rights for the 10th National Youth Games in 2026.
The inspection covered several venues, including Elegbata Mini Stadium, Onikan Stadium, Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval, and Rowe Park Sports Centre.
Other facilities visited were at the University of Lagos, CMS Grammar School, Agege Stadium, and Ikeja Golf Club.

The Director of Grassroots Sports Development, Mrs. Amaka Ashiofu, led the inspection team. She said the Commission ensured that every detail was taken into account in line with its mandate and global best practices.
Ashiofu stressed that the exercise highlighted the Commission’s commitment to the National Youth Games as a foundation for grassroots sports development and talent discovery.
“The Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, is determined to sustain grassroots development through well-organised domestic competitions. This inspection is therefore of great importance,” she stated.
The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, commended the NSC for considering Lagos for the Games.
He assured that Lagos would address the Commission’s feedback and make the state fully ready to host the Games if awarded the hosting rights.
