NSC, NFF to decide future of Super Eagles’ coach in new week

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) are scheduled to hold a crucial meeting this week to decide the future of the Super Eagles’ head coach.

This development comes after former international Augustine Eguavoen successfully guided the team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Eguavoen, who stepped in as caretaker coach in September, assumed the role after the NFF failed to appoint a permanent replacement ahead of the qualifiers.

However, there are differing opinions on whether the 59-year-old should remain as head coach for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

According to Complete Sports, the NSC appears to favor Eguavoen’s continued leadership.

“It’s a dicey situation at the moment, I must confess. The NFF still wants to go ahead with the appointment of a foreign coach, but they want to sort out the financial aspect before proceeding,” a source revealed.

The source further stated, “The NSC feels the current technical crew, led by Eguavoen, should stay on. To them, bringing in a new coach would not be ideal given the limited time before the Super Eagles’ next game against the Amavubi of Rwanda.”

The upcoming meeting between the NFF and the NSC is expected to be pivotal in determining the direction of the Super Eagles as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
