The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old bricklayer, Akeem Sulaiman, for allegedly vandalizing AUD Secondary School in Iwo, Osun State.
According to Commandant Michael Adaralewa, in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, ASC Kehinde Adeleke, the suspect was caught in Iwo on September 7, 2024, around 11:15 a.m. while attempting to sell stolen items to metal scrap buyers.
Recovered items include 13 new stainless steel handwashing basins, a pumping machine monitoring box, communication cables, three stainless steel trays, and four hand shovels.
The NSCDC boss disclosed that investigations revealed Sulaiman, a former laborer at the school’s construction site, had been stealing from various buildings under construction for six years and selling the items to metal scrap buyers.
Adaralewa stated that Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Law of Osun State, Nigeria, makes it an offense to willfully and unlawfully destroy or damage property.
He added that the suspect would face the full force of the law to serve as a deterrent to others who destroy government property.
The Commandant also warned metal scrap buyers in the state to desist from purchasing stolen items, cautioning that those found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.
