NSCDC urges emotional support as man commits suicide in Osun

A man simply identified as Olajide Tope, popularly known as Meco, reportedly committed suicide on Thursday morning at Otan Ile in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, ASC Kehinde Adeleke, who confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Friday, said residents contacted the Ilare Division of the corps around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday to report the case.

According to the statement, the deceased was said to have had a misunderstanding with his wife on Wednesday night. However, the exact cause of the incident remains unknown.

The command noted that its personnel were promptly on the ground to ensure calm and maintain peace in the community.

Speaking on the incident, the State Commandant, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, advised married couples and individuals facing emotional challenges to seek help through the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the corps.

He explained that the unit has successfully mediated and resolved numerous cases, providing guidance and support to people in distress.

“No one should ever feel compelled to take his or her own life. Every life is valuable and irreplaceable,” Sotiyo stated.
