Heavy rainfall recently hit parts of Osun State, causing significant damage to electricity poles, houses, and shops in Ilesa and Egbedore South.
Reports indicate that in Ilesa East, six concrete electricity poles fell along University Road, while in Egbedore South, areas such as Aje Market, Eesa Tuntun Community, Ejemu Compound, and Ajetunmobi Road in Ido-Osun suffered damage. Fallen electricity poles and destroyed roofing sheets were among the major impacts.
In response, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command, Igbalawole Sotiyo, urged residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety as the rainy season sets in.

Sotiyo, in a statement issued by the corps spokesperson, ASC Kehinde Adeleke, warned people to avoid walking or driving near fallen electricity poles or power lines. He also confirmed that the command had contacted the electricity distribution company for immediate action.
The NSCDC commandant emphasized the corps’ commitment to public safety, particularly in times of emergencies and natural disasters.

“As we enter the rainy season, it is imperative to take proactive measures to safeguard lives and property. Residents must remain vigilant and adopt necessary precautions to prevent accidents and further damage,” he stated.
He assured the people of Osun State that the NSCDC is dedicated to crisis management and emergency response.

“We are committed to ensuring public safety, and one of our core mandates is crisis management. We will continue working tirelessly to respond to emergencies and protect the public from harm,” Sotiyo added.
