NSW seeks NDPC guidance on data protection for Nigerians

The National Single Window (NSW) said it poised to collaborate with Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) on data protection guidance for Nigerians.

The NSW Secretariat, led by its Director, Mr Tola Fakolade saiid this when he visited the National Commissioner/CEO, NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji.

Fakolade provided an overview of the NSW Project, stating that the project.is poised to streamline trade processes in Nigeria. 

He added that they were at the Commission to seek guidance in their efforts to comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act) across all their projects, and initiated discussions on how NSW can collaborate closely with the NDPC to ensure that data protection and privacy become core components of the project’s design and implementation. 

In his response, Dr Olatunji commended the NSW team for taking the initiative to reach out to the Commission for guidance, acknowledging that they will be a Data Controller of Major Importance when the project moves into full swing. 

He discussed organisational and technical measures for data protection and privacy with them and provided guidance on the steps they should take to ensure compliance with the NDP Act.

He noted that the NDPC Nigeria Commission is willing to work with NSW, especially as what they hope to achieve will be beneficial to Nigerians and will contribute to improving Nigeria’s economic fortunes. He proposed that both organisations meet periodically, and a team was established to advance their discussions.
