The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State chapter, has refuted reports circulating on social media claiming that a teacher at Soun High School, Ogbomoso, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, was killed by students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours.

In a statement signed by the NUT State Secretary, Mr. Salami Olukayode, the union clarified that Mr. Adegoke’s death was unrelated to any act of student violence or indiscipline.

According to the statement, the late teacher died after a prolonged battle with a cancer-related illness.

“The death of Mr. Adegoke has no connection whatsoever with any act of student indiscipline,” the statement read.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals are spreading misinformation without knowledge of his medical history,” it added.

The NUT expressed its condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, and friends, praying that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest.

The union also cautioned the public, especially social media users, to verify information before sharing and emphasized the need to curb the spread of fake news.
