The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has commended the appointment of Honourable Bukola Olopade as the Director-General of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), describing it as a positive step toward revitalizing Nigerian sports under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a congratulatory message on Tuesday, NWF President Dr. Ibrahim Abdul described Olopade’s appointment as well-deserved, affirming President Tinubu’s commitment to the development and resuscitation of sports in the country.

Dr. Abdul praised Olopade as a “square peg in a square hole,” emphasizing that his extensive experience in the sports industry would significantly contribute to the transformation of Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.

“I read with delight the news of the appointment of my brother, Mr. Bukola Olopade, as the Director-General of the National Sports Commission.

“This is a commendable decision by our President and Grand Commander, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has prioritized revitalizing sports in Nigeria,” Dr. Abdul said in a statement issued by the Federation’s Media Officer, Mr. Amaechi Agbo.

“The appointments of Mr. Olopade as Director-General and Mr. Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the Commission, both technocrats in sports management, signal a new dawn for Nigerian sports. I have unwavering confidence in their abilities to deliver transformative results. Our sports will never be the same again.”

Olopade, an experienced sports administrator, previously served as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State and is currently the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 2024 National Sports Festival.

Dr. Abdul expressed optimism that the combined leadership of Olopade and Dikko would usher in a new era of excellence for Nigerian sports.
