Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state to equip themselves with vital skills and values that will enhance their personal development and contribute to national growth.

Governor Makinde gave the charge on Friday during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.

Represented by the Director of Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs. Kudirat Mustapha, the governor encouraged the corps members to seize the opportunities presented by the scheme to explore new areas and broaden their horizons.

“I charge you to avail yourselves of the opportunities provided during this orientation exercise. You are the future and hope of this nation,” Makinde said. “Equip yourselves with the right values to ensure a greater future. See your call to service as a call to sacrifice, dedication, perseverance, and humility.”

Makinde further praised the NYSC for its role in fostering national unity and creating a favourable environment for building a strong sense of nationhood among Nigerians from different backgrounds.

Reiterating his administration’s support for the NYSC, the governor disclosed that developmental programmes have been put in place to help youths apply their skills and knowledge in meaningful ways. He said participation in these programmes would enhance the value of their academic certificates.

Also speaking at the event, the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Peters Kayode, urged corps members to serve with integrity, humility, and passion throughout their time in the state.

He further encouraged them to be worthy ambassadors of their families and the NYSC by displaying discipline, selflessness, and dedication in all their activities.
