OAU to honour First Lady, four others at 48th convocation

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will receive an honorary doctorate degree from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, alongside four other distinguished personalities during its 48th convocation ceremony on December 14.

The other honorees include:

Dr. Akinade Ogunbiyi, Chairman of Mutual Benefit Plc,

Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe,

Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria Communications PLC, and

Daere Afonya-Akobo.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the convocation activities, OAU Vice Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, explained that the honorees were selected for their outstanding contributions to societal development. He highlighted their efforts in supporting the less privileged and advancing progress through their talents, resources, and initiatives.

During the ceremony, a total of 7,368 students will graduate across OAU’s 13 faculties. Among them:

215 students achieved First Class Honours,

2,197 earned Second Class Upper Division,

2,691 achieved Second Class Lower Division, and

62 received Third Class Honours.

For unclassified degrees, 13 students graduated with Distinction, while others achieved varying levels of distinction or credit. Additionally, postgraduate degrees will be awarded as follows:

74 Postgraduate Diplomas,

708 Master’s Degrees, and

176 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees.
