Obasa trying to impose son as LG chairman – APC group

A political group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned of a potential crisis in the party if Mudashiru Obasa, the reinstated Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, imposes his son, AbdulGaniyu Obasa, as the next chairman of Agege Local Government.
The group, known as the Concerned Citizens of Agege, expressed their concerns in an open letter, stating that the people of Agege and Orile Agege could no longer remain silent as Obasa allegedly seeks to impose his son in the upcoming local government election.
While acknowledging the son’s right to contest, the group emphasized the importance of a free and fair primary election where the people of Agege can select their candidate.
The group criticized Obasa’s leadership, accusing him of decades of underperformance and political manipulation. They lamented that despite his long tenure, there have been no meaningful empowerment programs or development initiatives for the people of Agege.
“Year after year, he collects constituency allowances meant for the development of our communities, yet there is no visible impact,” the group alleged.
The Concerned Citizens of Agege also rejected the idea of a “father and son” political dynasty, arguing that public office should not be treated as a family inheritance. It pointed out that AbdulGaniyu Obasa, who they described as a political lightweight, had never been involved in grassroots politics or attended key political meetings.
The political group further criticized Obasa’s attempt to impose another candidate in Orile Agege, saying that the people of the area were aware of his political maneuvers and rejected recycled leadership.
It concluded by stressing that the era of being manipulated by money and fear was over, and that Agege and Orile Agege deserved better leadership—one that was qualified, present, and committed to true service.
