Obasa’s impeachment: Tinubu not involved, strictly Lagos Assembly affairs- APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State chapter, has said the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the House of Assembly was strictly the affairs of the lawmakers, saying President Bola Tinubu did not play any role in it.
Obasa was impeached by 32 out of 40 members of the House on January 13, 2025 and replaced by Rt( Hon) Mojisola Meranda.
The House moved further to suspend the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko.
On Friday, the House appointed its principal officers and also set up a Selection Committee to select Standing Committees.
Meanwhile, the Spokesman for the Lagos APC, Seye Oladejo, speaking with journalists, highlighted the independence of the parliament and other arms of government in the State, noting that the impeachment process was a reflection of this autonomy.
“His impeachment is not a party affair, it’s the entire business of the House of Assembly, it has nothing to do with the party. They enjoy their independence as a major tier in this democracy.
“I wouldn’t know who was involved and not involved. We only have to accept what the members of the House have put in the public domain. The members said they decided to have a change of guard, and that was it.
“Politics is about intrigues and interests, and the only thing that is permanent is your interest at a particular time as a politician. That is universal; it’s not peculiar to Nigeria.”
Oladejo maintained that the party focuses on the forthcoming party congress and local government elections scheduled for the middle of the year.
