Obasa’s removal constitutional, followed due process- Lagos Assembly insists

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have insisted that the removal of former Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa followed due process and constitutional.

A statement issued on Thursday night by Hon. Stephen Ogundipe after the release of the detained lawmakers by the Department of State Services (DSS), said “The Lagos State House of Assembly, as an independent arm of government, exercised its constitutional duty in the best interest of the people of Lagos. Any attempt to challenge this lawful action undermines the authority granted to us by the Nigerian Constitution”.

The lawmakers commended the DSS for its professionalism and for ensuring a smooth and respectful engagement.

It statement confirmed that all detained lawmakers have since been released.

Reiterating their commitment to legislative duties, the Assembly called on all stakeholders, including the executive and the public, to respect the sanctity of legislative processes and avoid undue interference.

It would be recalled that Hon Sylvester Ogunkelu and Hon. Lanre Afinni were arrested on Thursday.

Afinni was later released on health ground while Ogunkelu was released at about 8pm after intervention of other lawmakers who mobilized themselves to the DSS Lagos Office.
