ODIRS, Information Ministry to partner on revenue mobilisation in Ondo

The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), led by its Chairman, Mr. Bayo Rojugbonkan, has visited the Ministry of Information and Orientation to seek greater media collaboration in support of the state’s revenue mobilisation efforts.
During the courtesy call to the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, at the ministry’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, Rojugbonkan stressed the importance of public enlightenment in boosting internally generated revenue. He said the agency is re-strategising its operations and relying on the ministry’s media platforms to educate residents on tax policies.
In his remarks, Hon. Ajanaku pledged full support for the ODIRS mandate. Drawing on his experience from Lagos State, he cited how effective media engagement helped grow the state’s monthly IGR from ₦600 million in 1999 to over ₦50 billion, encouraging ODIRS to adopt a similar template.
The commissioner urged the revenue agency to intensify its efforts and referenced a past statement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described Ondo as having the greatest revenue potential in the South-West after Lagos.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry of Information’s readiness to maintain an open-door policy for collaboration and innovative ideas that align with the present administration’s OUR EASE development agenda.
According to Ajanaku, the media has a central role in fostering tax compliance, and the ministry will play a strategic role in enhancing public awareness across the state.
Rojugbonkan thanked the commissioner for the warm reception and reiterated ODIRS’s commitment to effective partnerships that will help drive sustainable development in Ondo State.
The visit ended with a mutual pledge to work together in creating more impactful communication strategies that would improve tax compliance and ultimately increase the state’s revenue base.
