The Kwara State Government has expressed relief following the conviction of five criminals involved in the deadly April 26, 2018, armed robbery in Offa, describing the judgment as a victory of good over evil.
The verdict was handed down by the Kwara State High Court, marking a significant step toward justice for the 33 victims, including nine policemen and several pregnant women, who were brutally killed during the incident.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Bola Olukoju, the Commissioner for Communications, the government commended the court’s decision and praised the legal team for their diligence. “The judgment is a triumph of good and the rule of law over evil and impunity,” the statement read.
The government further acknowledged the efforts of the prosecution team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rotimi Jacob, alongside members of the Kwara State Ministry of Justice, for their unwavering commitment to pursuing justice despite initial challenges in the case.
The robbery, one of the most tragic events in Kwara’s recent history, deeply affected the state. The government’s statement expressed condolences to the Offa community, the families of the victims, and the police, offering prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives.
The government emphasized that the court’s ruling sends a strong message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated. “No life is more important than the other,” the statement added, affirming the state’s commitment to ensuring justice for all its citizens.
