Ogun launches $400million Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone

Ogun State government has launched a $400million special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) that will catalyse the industrialisation of the state and create thousands of good paying jobs.

The project is jointly funded by the private sector, multilateral institutions and backed by the state government according to Governor Dapo Abiodun who spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Governor Abiodun noted that the Agro-Industrial Processing Zone will compliment the ongoing Cargo Airport and the proposed deep sea port within the same economic zone, adding that it will make the Gateway State ready to take full advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The governor said: “In what is the result of painstaking efforts towards industrialising Ogun State, we today held the groundbreaking of the development of the $400million, first phase of the Ogun Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone, SAPZ. This project will be aptly complemented by the Ogun Agro-Cargo Airport, the deep sea port, Nigeria’s biggest presence of the Nigeria Customs Service and our takeaways from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA.

“I appreciate key contributors to the success of this innovation including Mr Gagan Gupta, CEO, ARISEIIP; Dr Benedict Oramah, President, Africa Export-Import Bank; Dr Akinwunmi A. Adesina, President, Africa Development Bank Group; Alhaji Samaila Zubairu, President, Africa Finance Corporation as well as members of my economic team.

“I urge more participation, especially from the private sector, in future projects that are set to deliver a better economy for the truly Gateway State.”
