Ogun monarch suspended after assaulting 73-year-old chief

The Ogun State Police Command on Monday interrogated Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for assaulting 73-year-old chief, Areola Abraham.
The assault, which included both verbal and physical abuse, was captured in a viral video where Ogunjobi is seen cursing the chief while accusing him of conspiracy. In the clip, Areola is forced to kneel, and a man accompanying the monarch slapped him.
Ogunjobi, a retired police officer, claimed to have influence over law enforcement, even threatening to jail the chief. The Police Force, however, emphasized that no one controls it, and justice would be served.
In response, the Ogun State Government imposed a six-month suspension on the monarch for conduct unbecoming of his position.
The decision, made after an investigation by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was supported by the Egba Traditional Council. Ogunjobi has also been stripped of the paraphernalia of his office pending further investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from various stakeholders, including the National Association of Nigeria Students and other public figures.
