Ogun CP visits Olowu of Owu, vows action against land grabbers

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has pledged decisive action against criminal activities in the state, particularly land grabbing and property vandalism.

He made this commitment during a courtesy visit to the Olowu of Owu and Paramount Ruler of Owu Kingdom, Oba Professor Adelola Saka Matemilola, at his palace.

The visit aimed to foster collaboration between the police force and traditional institutions in ensuring a safer Ogun State. During the meeting, Oba Matemilola highlighted major security challenges in the Owu Kingdom, notably the destructive activities of scavengers, commonly known as “Bola Bola.” He raised concerns over their involvement in the destruction of new buildings, theft of electrical cables, and vandalization of properties.

The monarch also drew attention to the growing menace of land grabbers in Ogun State. He urged the Commissioner of Police to take firm action against their illegal activities, which have led to numerous disputes and violent confrontations.

Responding to these concerns, CP Ogunlowo reassured the monarch of the police command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state. He warned land grabbers against resorting to violence, destruction of property, or criminal actions such as shootings and physical attacks. While acknowledging that land disputes are civil matters, he stressed that the police would intervene whenever such disputes escalate into criminal offenses.

The police commissioner further stated that malicious damage and violent confrontations would not be tolerated. He assured that security personnel would act swiftly to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with Oba Matemilola commending the Commissioner’s proactive approach to security issues. He expressed his willingness to support the police command in ensuring peace and stability within the Owu Kingdom and beyond.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with traditional rulers and community leaders to enhance security across the state. The collaboration, CP Ogunlowo emphasized, is essential in creating a safer environment for all residents.
