Ogun police deny misconduct allegation, arrest man for assaulting officer

The Ogun State Police Command has denied allegations of professional misconduct leveled against the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ajuwon Division, following an incident involving the arrest of a suspected drug offender.
In a statement signed on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the police explained that the claims were made by one Philip Adaramola and have been found to be misleading.
According to the police, the incident occurred on July 2, 2025, during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by officers of the Ajuwon Division at Olambe Matogun in Ogun State. During the operation, a 25-year-old man, identified as Samson Joseph Osamuye, was found in possession of substances suspected to be hard drugs and was immediately taken into custody.
The statement noted that while officers were carrying out the arrest, Adaramola arrived at the scene and began behaving aggressively. He reportedly used abusive language, issued threats, and attempted to obstruct the officers from performing their lawful duties.
“Upon arrival at the station, Adaramola escalated his conduct by physically assaulting Sergeant Merotiwon Babajide, delivering a blow to his hand without provocation,” the statement added.
Adaramola was subsequently made to write a statement under caution and is expected to be arraigned in court on July 3, 2025.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional policing, stating that while acts of indiscipline by officers will not be tolerated, the same zero tolerance applies to any form of interference with lawful police duties.
