Ogun Police deploy special squad to secure Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security along the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway with the deployment of a specialized Intervention Squad to combat criminal activities, particularly kidnapping and armed robbery.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, personally inspected security operations on March 19, 2025, at the newly established intervention post strategically located before Odogbolu, between Celplas Industry, Mikano Generator, and Ladgroup Company.

The post, a makeshift roof shed fortified with sandbags, serves as a rapid response center for distress calls from the Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, and Owode Egba Area Commands, as well as commuters in need of emergency assistance.

To ensure comprehensive security coverage, the police have positioned key security points along the expressway, including:

  • Two OP MESA security points at inward and outward Lagos on the Long Bridge.
  • Shed posts with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at the Sagamu Interchange.
  • Newly established makeshift security posts along the Ijebu Ode–Sagamu Highway to reinforce the presence of armed policemen.

The statement further revealed that the initiative follows a surveillance operation conducted on February 27, 2025, during which CP Ogunlowo identified and blocked escape routes frequently used by kidnappers. Barriers have been erected to prevent unauthorized movement along footpaths used as getaway points, and access control measures have been implemented.

To further strengthen security, a quick intervention squad has been permanently stationed in the area, supported by additional patrol teams operating in an armoured personnel carrier stationed at the Sagamu Intersection.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of commuters and residents, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to the Command.
