Ogun seals 9 BTS, frowns at iIlegal erection of masts
The Ogun State Government has sealed nine Base Transmission Systems (BTS), within the Abeokuta metropolis without due regulatory process and authorisation by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The state government also vowed not to allow any telecommunication outfit to erect masts without due regulatory process and authorisation by the ministry.
The Director, Department of Urban Development, Rufus Talabi, who led an enforcement team in Abeokuta, said any operator that goes against the State government’s law in that regard would be sanctioned.
Talabi said the task force had decided to seal some BTS at Ogbe, Ijeja, Gbangba, Ibara GRA, Ojere Road, Iporo Ake, Kemta, Idi-Aba, Aregbe, and Abiola way in Abeokuta for not obtaining necessary planning permits from the Ministry nor followed due regulatory process before the commencement of the developments.
He added that the sealed BTS would need to apply for unsealing and pay necessary government fees before they could be unsealed, noting that, “all the masts that were sealed have been served all statutory notices, ranging from contravention notice to stop work to sealing notices, yet the service providers did not respond despite many correspondences”.
Talabi explained the process for obtaining the planning permit including submission of an application with all necessary documentation, enjoining service providers across the State to desist from erecting illegal structures, but rather follow due process so as not to face the wrath of the law.
