Ogunsua prohibits trade associations in Modakeke

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo

The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, has prohibited all existing trade associations across markets in the Modakeke area of Osun State.

The decision was taken after a meeting with market men and women at the Ogunsua’s palace.

The monarch, who banned all associations of traders, said the step would reduce the effect of inflation on the residents and indigenes of the town.

Oba Toriola stressed that individual traders are free to determine the prices for their goods without pressure from any trade association.

He urged traders to cooperate with the community leaders in curbing inflation.

It would be recalled that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, also banned market groups in Ile-Ife over their roles in the current high cost of food items in the community.
