Ojodu LGA boss empowers youth with digital training, urges electoral sensitisation

By Adeola Ogunrinde –
Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), David Odunmbaku, on Monday kicked off a digital skills empowerment training for 154 youths within the council area, charging them to be actively involved in politics and governance.
The training, which commenced at the council secretariat, covers digital literacy, social media marketing, cybersecurity, digital entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. Odunmbaku said the initiative was part of the council’s efforts to equip young people with relevant skills for the modern economy.
He urged the participants to play active roles in the nation’s democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting during elections. “Go and register to vote and exhibit your civic responsibility,” he said. “Many of our young ones are disconnected from governance. Your decisions matter; you should be able to choose your leaders.”
Odunmbaku emphasized that youth participation was vital to national development, noting that sitting on the fence would not bring change. “If I had decided to sit on the fence, I wouldn’t be chairman today,” he added. “We have a president that is cerebral, and as youths, you have the power to change the status quo by taking part in the electoral process.”
On the training initiative, the council boss described it as a “fantastic opportunity” for participants to acquire technical knowledge that would make them globally competitive. He said digital empowerment was key to creating self-sufficient and future-ready individuals.
“I congratulate you for being part of this programme. The world has changed, and vocational skills have evolved into technology-driven solutions,” he stated. “Take this training seriously because you don’t know when you will need it. With your certification, you can excel anywhere.”
Odunmbaku noted that the government’s investment in digital skills training was a catalyst for growth and innovation. He encouraged the participants to demonstrate discipline and professionalism throughout the programme.
He disclosed that outstanding participants would have the opportunity to travel to South Africa to complete an advanced phase of the training, describing it as a life-changing opportunity for the beneficiaries to grow and contribute meaningfully to society.
