Ojudu’s remarks on Tinubu’s emergence as 2023 APC presidential candidate not factual- Okechukwu

Osita Okechukwu, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and core loyalist to the former President Muhammadu Buhari, has disapproved the remarks made by Buhari’s former Political Adviser, Babafemi Ojudu on how President Bola Tinubu emerged as the APC presidential candidate in 2023.

Okechukwu, who was the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) during the administration of Buhari, said that Tinubu did not outsmart Buhari to become APC presidential candidate as claimed by Ojudu.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Okechukwu explained that truly opinion was divided on whether to support Tinubu or not for the ticket but that Buhari pitched his tent with the camp of the then Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

Okechukwu said “Ojudu’s so called disclosure was less than factual.

“Yes there was split opinion on whether to support Tinubu or not and Buhari sided with the camp led by then Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, quoting the Holy Quran that he cannot ditch the man who stood by him through thick and thin. Rather let the delegates elect whoever is their choice at Eagle Square.”

Okechukwu maintained that there was division in the Buhari’s kitchen cabinet immediately after the Screening Committee headed by the former chairman of APC, John Oyegun was submitted.

He added “The argument centered on whether some of the twenty three presidential aspirants including Tinubu should be disqualified following plethora of allegations flying around.

“The only truth in Ojudu’s statement is that Buhari didn’t mobilise for any of the twenty three aspirants not even for Senator Ahmed Lawan.

“Truly if Buhari was in support of Lawan he could have disclosed this to the APC Governors Forum who prodded him serially to tell them who to vote for. It couldn’t had been the then national chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to inform only the National Working Committee. The Aso Villa is the arena for such important message”.
