Okada ban: Police talk tough, put officers on red alert

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, on Monday assured that the ban on Okada operation in some parts of Lagos from Wednesday, June 1 would be strictly enforced.
Alabi also assured Lagosians of their safety, urging them to go about their normal businesses.
His assurance is coming against a message from an unknown source alleging plans by Okada riders to embark on a bloody protest against the ban.
The message reads: “Good day brothers & sisters. Lagos State government has given the 1st of June as the takeoff of Okada riders ban in most parts of Lagos and because of this the Okada riders mostly the northern Okada riders and some of our own here have declared riots on that day in protest against the ban.
“It’s going to be bloody and rough. Please, stay indoors or a walking distance to your homes to avoid being a victim of the mayhem which they have planned and deliberated upon.
“The northern youths have sworn to go on rampage that day. Please stay safe and watch the situations around you.
“Be at alert for any danger and be safety conscious.”
However, Alabi met with Area Commanders, Squadron Commanders and Tactical Commanders at the Police Headquarters, Ikeja over the enforcement of the total ban on Monday.
According to the police commissioner, every resistance by the Okada riders would be strongly quelled in accordance with the law.
He warned that the police will not allow any break down of law and order in the state, even as he directed his men to be at alert for any eventuality.
