Okoya’s alleged first son appeals for reconciliation in viral open letter

An open letter purportedly written by a man identified as Fatai Okoya, who describes himself as the first child of Nigerian industrialist Razaq Akanni Okoya, has sparked online interest over its appeal for reconciliation with his father.
In the letter addressed to Okoya, the writer apologised for what he described as more than four decades of estrangement and expressed regret over the years they had allegedly spent apart.
“Dad, it has been over four decades, and I am speaking from the deepest part of my heart when I say, I am truly sorry,” the letter reads.
The writer said he had made efforts to reach out to his father and restore their relationship over the years, adding that he wanted the family to move beyond the past and rebuild their bond.
He appealed to the industrialist to embrace reconciliation, forgiveness and a fresh start, stressing that the time lost could not be recovered.
“You will always be my father, and I will always be your first child,” the writer said, adding that he was willing to take the first step towards peace whenever his father was ready.
The letter also contained a prayer for healing and understanding, with the writer expressing his desire to have his father back in his life. However, the authenticity of the letter and the writer’s claimed identity could not be independently verified.
Okoya, the founder of Eleganza Group, is a prominent Nigerian businessman whose family has attracted public attention. In February 2026, one of his sons, Raheem Okoya, spoke publicly about the size of the family and the different career paths chosen by some of his older siblings. However, no verified public account has been established linking that discussion to the alleged estrangement described in the letter.
