Okpebholo unveils plan to turn Ramat Park into major tourist hub in Benin

Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo has unveiled plans to transform Ramat Park in Benin City into a major tourist attraction during an inspection tour of projects in Edo South Senatorial District.
The governor visited the Ikpoba Hill flyover and erosion control works at Ramat Park, as well as the Sapele Road linking Okhatu, Etiosa, Iyanomo and Obaretin communities. He said the park’s redevelopment would go beyond traffic decongestion to reposition it as a leisure and tourism hub.
Addressing journalists, Okpebholo said the area would be redesigned to reflect modern urban standards and serve as a relaxation centre for residents and visitors. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, noting that the completed project would significantly transform the landscape.
He stressed that his administration is determined to develop Ramat Park into a prime tourist destination, adding that additional structures would be built to make the site vibrant and attractive. According to him, the project is part of efforts to reshape Edo State’s image and promote recreation and economic activities.

Briefing the governor, Mr Lee, who represented the contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), said the project is on schedule and nearing completion, with only minor works expected to remain by May.
At the Sapele Road site, Okpebholo described the reconstruction as a demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that the project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

He noted that within one year and three months in office, his administration has recorded significant progress, attributing the achievements to presidential support and the cooperation of Edo residents. He also commended the contractors for their dedication.
The governor reiterated that while road infrastructure remains a top priority, the planned transformation of Ramat Park will serve as a signature project aimed at boosting tourism, commerce and the overall aesthetic appeal of Benin City.
