Okupe announces withdrawal as Labour Party VP candidate

Doyin Okupe has announced his withdrawal as the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
The former presidential aide announced his withdrawal via a Facebook post on Thursday.
“This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC.
“A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of the party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the Labour Party,” Okupe wrote.
Okupe had during an interview on Channels TV Programme ‘Politics Today’ last month said his name was submitted by the party to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to meet the deadline for the submission of candidates.
He, however, confirmed in another interview on Tuesday that the party would name the substantive running mate for presidential candidate, Peter Obi latest Friday.
According to him, the alliance talks with Rabiu Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria Peoples Party was “dead”.
