Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after Nigeria officially secured the hosting rights for the 2nd African School Games, scheduled for 2027.

Nigeria’s selection was announced on Tuesday in Algiers after a competitive bidding process in which the country beat other strong contenders, including South Africa and Kenya.

Olopade attributed the success to the president’s commitment to sports development, describing the win as a milestone for Nigeria and the continent. “This is a huge win for Nigeria and for the future of sports development in Africa. Our successful bid is a testament to the unwavering commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to sports excellence,” he said.

He added that the achievement reflects the Renewed Hope Mandate, noting that Nigeria is regaining its status as Africa’s sports hub while boosting the sports economy and international reputation. “In 2027, Nigeria will deliver an unforgettable experience for young athletes from across the continent,” he assured.

Nigeria’s bid was strengthened by its track record of hosting major competitions, including the National Sports Festival and the 3rd CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships, both praised for their organisation, athlete experience, and facilities.

Olopade also commended the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) for trusting Nigeria with the event, promising that preparations would begin immediately to ensure top-class delivery.

The delegation that led Nigeria’s bid included Olopade and the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel.
