Olubadan-designate Ladoja calls for restoration of Ibadan’s heritage homes
By Adejayan Gbenga –
Olubadan-elect, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has called for the revival of Ibadan’s historic homes, urging Mogajis (compound heads) to make their ancestral compounds habitable again.
Speaking at his Bodija residence when hundreds of Mogajis paid him a congratulatory visit over the weekend, the former Oyo State governor noted that many traditional homes have been abandoned as their custodians moved to affluent districts or abroad.
“Being a Mogaji is not just an honour but a responsibility. We must not abandon our ancestral homes. Our presence is crucial for mentoring the younger generation,” Ladoja said, adding that renovating these houses could help curb social vices like drug abuse.
He revealed that he had renovated his family house in Isale Osi and plans to visit it regularly as Olubadan. Ladoja also commended Mogajis already contributing to education and community development, urging others to align with his vision for a vibrant Ibadan.
In response, Chief Asimiyu Ariori, leader of the Ibadan Mogajis, congratulated him on his forthcoming coronation scheduled for September 26, 2025, and pledged their full support.
