The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has nominated three Mogajis to fill vacant positions in the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy hierarchy following the death of a high chief and other title holders.

The nominations were approved after consultations between the monarch and members of the Olubadan-in-Council, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Administrative Secretary, Olubadan-in-Line Traditional Chiefs, Sanusi Akinkunmi.

Those nominated are publisher of The Street Journal Newspaper, businessman and philanthropist, Wole Arisekola, alongside Kabiru Makinde and Charles Durosaro.

The statement explained that the appointments became necessary after vacancies emerged within the established lines of succession in the Olubadan traditional system.

It said the nominated Mogajis are Mogaji Kabiru Ademola Makinde, Mogaji Charles Durosaro and Mogaji Wole Arisekola.

The palace added that the nomination for the remaining vacant position would be decided and announced at a later date.

It further stated that the date and arrangements for the official installation ceremony would be communicated after further directives from the Olubadan.

The development highlights the unique chieftaincy arrangement in Ibadanland, where Mogajis, as heads of family compounds, play an important role in the traditional succession structure, with chiefs advancing through designated ranks and succession lines before becoming eligible for the Olubadan throne.
