Oluremi Tinubu urges hygiene, stakeholder action to end malaria

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to maintain clean environments and eliminate stagnant water to combat the spread of malaria, which she described as a national emergency.
In a statement she personally signed on Friday to mark World Malaria Day 2025, the First Lady stressed the importance of environmental hygiene in tackling the mosquito-borne disease.
“We should ensure that our environment and surroundings are clean and free of stagnant water, which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes,” she said.
Senator Tinubu noted that Nigeria bears the highest burden of malaria globally and called on all stakeholders—including government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, health workers, and community leaders—to reinvest in life-saving interventions and recommit to national efforts.
Referencing this year’s theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” she described it as both a call to action and a message of hope.
“Malaria ends with us—with our voices, our choices, and our actions,” she added.
