Oluremi Tinubu urges investment in education, healthcare to tackle poverty

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for increased access to education, healthcare, skills development and decent livelihoods as part of efforts to eradicate poverty and promote shared prosperity in Nigeria.

Tinubu made the call in a message to mark the 2026 International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on Saturday.

She said vulnerable families needed greater access to economic opportunities to enable them to live with dignity and realise their full potential.

According to her, the theme of this year’s observance, “Dignity, Opportunity, and Shared Prosperity,” underscores the collective responsibility to build a society where everyone has access to meaningful opportunities.

She stressed the need for sustained efforts to create an environment where individuals and families could overcome poverty and improve their living conditions.

“Through compassion, effective interventions, and sustained collaboration, we can create pathways out of poverty and towards shared prosperity,” she said.

The First Lady urged continued commitment to initiatives that would expand opportunities for vulnerable households and support inclusive development.
