By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Oluwo of Iwo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing his death as a great loss to the Yoruba traditional institution.
In a statement issued through his Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, Oba Akanbi described the reign of Oba Olakulehin as a testimony to the wonders of a true king, noting that he was born to be a monarch.
The Oluwo commiserated with the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, other Ibadan monarchs, the Oyo State Executive and Legislative arms, indigenes of Ibadan, and the immediate family of the late Olubadan.
He prayed that God would forgive the late monarch’s shortcomings and reward him for his service to humanity in his traditional role.
Oba Akanbi noted that the legacy of the Olubadan would remain a reference point in Yoruba royal history, adding that his leadership style reflected dignity, peace, and cultural preservation.
Oba Olakulehin passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
