‘Oluyole LGA won’t tolerate lawlessness’ — Chairman warns herders over anti-grazing violation

The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Hon. Akeem Olatunji, has declared that the council will not tolerate lawlessness or the deliberate violation of Oyo State laws, especially the Anti-Open Grazing Law.

Olatunji made this declaration following a recent incident involving a group of herders who allegedly violated the law by leading their cattle across a major highway in the Oluyole axis, specifically around Onipe village.

Eyewitnesses reported that the cattle obstructed the road, causing a moving truck to collide with the animals. The resulting accident led to damage to property, disrupted traffic flow, and sparked panic among commuters and residents.

The Idi-Ayunre Police Division quickly intervened, deploying personnel to the scene to restore order and ensure public safety in the affected area.

Describing the incident as “unacceptable and a direct affront to public safety and the rule of law,” Olatunji said the council will not allow anyone to endanger the peace and security of its residents.

He stressed that the Anti-Open Grazing Law is fully operational in Oyo State and warned that violators would be prosecuted. “We welcome everyone who abides by the law, regardless of background or occupation. But no one has the right to flout the law without facing consequences,” he said.

Olatunji noted that the council would work closely with the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority and other security agencies to ensure enforcement and justice.

He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns among nomadic and pastoral communities about the need to respect the law and uphold public order.
