Omisore to Prof Soyinka: Ask your ‘cousin’ Obasanjo who killed Bola Ige

National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore has urged Prof. Wole Soyinka to ask his “cousin”, former President Olusegun Obasanjo about the death of former Justice Minister, Chief Bola Ige.

Bola Ige was murdered under the administration of Obasanjo in Ibadan, Oyo State in 2003. He was one of the many high profile murder cases that took place in that period.

Omisore, who is a former deputy governor of Osun State, in a statement on Monday said he had nothing to do with Ige’s murder and had been acquitted by the court of competent jurisdiction.

He was reacting to Prof. Soyinka’s allegation last week, linking him to the murder of Chief Ige.

The Nobel laureate had issued a statement on the heels of Omisore’s emergence as APC national secretary, faulting the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari that the police should reopen all previously unresolved murder cases.

Soyinka had made it clear that it may be impossible to find the killers of Chief Ige with the prime suspect holding a high position in the ruling party.

But Omisore said: “As brilliant as Prof Soyinka is…he, no doubt, has no monopoly of wisdom.

“If the courts of the land has vindicated a man..it’s naive of him, after nearly a decade to link Senator Iyiola Omisore, to further search….Civil and criminal law knowledge should tell Prof to ask his cousin; OBJ for the murderer.

“The world is aware of the framing of Senator Iyiola Omisore and his travails and trials facing murder charges and his subsequent acquittal and discharge almost a decade ago by a competent court of the land. So how come any man, can still refer to him as a possible suspect.”

The APC scribe also recalled Soyinka’s adventures in his earlier days and recent political slips

He said: “It is part of history and we are not too young, when we read of him (Prof) too carried a gun into a Radio station- A criminal offence against the state; yet we continue to honour him.

“History has it that the Prof as an undergraduate along with colleagues laid the foundation (Pyrates Fraternity) for today’s cultism in our institutions of higher learning which today has become a cankerworm that is destroying our youths. Yet we still continue to honour him

“Can we also forget that prof was appointed the chairman of education summit that gave birth to single uniform for all secondary and primary schools and Opon Imon, during the tenure of Aregbesola-Baba kabiru as governor of Osun State. A failed Education Policy that history will not readily forget. Prof should be careful not to be seen to be trying to defend the interest of his benefactor (baba kabiru) who appointed him as chairman of the failed education summit.”

Omisore, along with other accused was arrested and arraigned following the death of the Afenifere chieftain. But he was acquitted and discharged of the murder allegation.
