Omisore vows to rescue Osun, calls for collective decision on party ticket

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a governorship aspirant in Osun, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election, vowing to rescue and reposition the state for progress.
Speaking during ongoing consultations in Osogbo and Olorunda Local Government Areas of Osun State on Wednesday, Omisore emphasized that his bid is driven by a commitment to service and a desire to address the challenges facing the state. He said his goal is to rescue Osun from poor governance and bring real opportunities and improvements to its people.
Omisore explained that he was encouraged by stakeholders and like-minded individuals who believe in his capacity, noting that his wealth of experience positions him strongly to lead the state effectively.
He further warned that if the party fails to give its ticket to a viable aspirant, it risks losing the 2026 election. “We must consider an aspirant who has held an elective position to run in the 2026 governorship race,” Omisore said.
He added, “We must not leave the party ticket to the free will of an individual. The governorship of a state must be a collective testimony across the board — stakeholders, all interest groups, and the voting population of the aspirant must be involved.”
Also speaking, former House of Representatives member Israel Famurewa said Omisore enjoys overwhelming support from the people of the state.
“People have been saying a lot of good things about him — his good deeds and the way he interacts with party members,” Famurewa said. “Senator Omisore is a grassroots politician who knows people personally and can call them by their first names.”
