Ondo Amotekun vows to crack down on ‘godfathers, sponsors’

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has declared that it is shifting focus to criminal godfathers in a renewed effort to tackle insecurity across the state.

The Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, who briefed journalists in Akure, said the agency had moved beyond arresting common criminals to targeting their sponsors and backers.

He disclosed that 28 suspects had recently been apprehended for various offences.

“Amotekun always strives to be ahead of them. We are now after their godfathers and backbones, and the reason is simple.

“We don’t want to relent. Hence, our fight is not just against the criminals but also against their sponsors.

“So, we are saying that until we uproot them, we won’t have total peace,” he stated.

Adeleye maintained that Amotekun had intensified its operations across the state, including forest patrols, which have restored confidence among farmers to return to their farms.

He added that the corps’ intervention had boosted Ondo’s internally generated revenue by over 500 per cent in 2023.
