Ondo APC cuts ties with members contesting against party candidates

The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has declared that members who abandoned the party to contest next year’s National Assembly elections on the platforms of rival parties have automatically lost their membership of the APC.
The position was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary of the party’s Reconciliation Committee, Dele Olanubi, following concerns over alleged anti-party activities among some members ahead of the 2027 elections.
The committee said some APC members who failed to secure the party’s tickets during its primaries had obtained nomination forms from other political parties in an attempt to contest the elections.
According to Olanubi, the committee Chairman, Biyi Poroye, warned that the APC would not tolerate actions capable of undermining the party’s candidates, stressing that loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates remained compulsory.
“Any member who has elected to abandon the platform of the APC to contest an elective office under the banner of another political party has, by that singular act, irrevocably severed all relationship with our party,” the statement said.
The committee further warned that members found associating with politicians who left the APC to contest against its candidates could face sanctions, including loss of party privileges and possible expulsion.
It also disclosed that it had met with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as part of its reconciliation efforts, quoting him as saying that he remained committed to the APC and would neither join nor support another political party or candidates contesting against the APC.
The committee urged members to put aside personal ambitions and support the party’s candidates, saying its reconciliation efforts would continue until outstanding disputes were resolved and the Ondo APC was united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
